Textbook of Mechanical Vibrations
This textbook offers a comprehensive and accessible treatment of mechanical vibration theory and applications, intended for senior undergraduate and postgraduate students of mechanical engineering. The Second Edition adds a new chapter on nonlinear vibrations while retaining and expanding earlier content in linear vibrations, forced, damped, and undamped systems, multi-degree-of-freedom systems, and continuous systems.
Each chapter includes multiple solved examples and unsolved problems to strengthen the reader’s understanding. Mathematical prerequisites are kept to a minimum so that practicing engineers as well as students can follow the material without undue difficulty. Appendices provide supporting mathematical tools such as Laplace transforms, numerical integration methods, and beam vibration formulations. The book’s practical orientation, breadth of topics (including transient, random, and finite element approaches), and clarity make it a useful reference as well as a teaching text.
