BOOK
Prescription of Narcotics for Heroin Addicts: Main Results of the Swiss National Cohort Study. Vol. 1
This volume presents the main findings of the Swiss National Cohort Study (PROVE Project) on the medical prescription of narcotics to chronic heroin addicts. More than 1,000 severely dependent individuals, resistant to conventional treatment, participated in a 3-year program. Results demonstrated significant improvements in health, social integration, and reductions in criminal activity. No overdose deaths from prescribed heroin occurred. The book discusses methodology, clinical outcomes, public health implications, and recommendations for policy and practice.
